Deloads in Bodybuilding

I’ve told this countless times, you can’t go at 120% everyday at the gym, you will snap your shit so you need to have deloads from time to time.

You have to understand that the deload is an excellent tool to rest connective tissues, muscles & most importantly your central nervous system.

Sometimes taking a week off after 8 10 weeks of heavy training will do you good, and no you won’t shrink because you do so ! You have to be mature about this, muscle doesn’t disappear that easily, as I write this I’m over 110 weeks away from the last proper workout I did before my injury, and trust me I still have a good frame left.

Do not underestimate overtraining, overtraining means prolonged fatigue which will affect a lot of areas of your life. The deload will actually give you more gains.

A deload isn’t rocket science, you can follow the simple guideline of using less than 70% intensity (use lighter weights) of your standard training session on a typical deload week, and I can’t recommend when you should have a deload week, it will depend on your training program and goals (Bodybuilding and powerlifting deloads would be different to begin with), and remember you can use this time to improve your training techniques.

Periods of high intensity should be followed by periods of low intensity, period. Its like everything else in life, if you do anything in a single dimension over the limit, other areas of your life will suffer. Train smart, live smart.
