Did we forget the fundamentals ?

Lets talk about the 3 most overlooked cornerstones in this game

Sleep

 

Sleep is where all our recovery transpires, ranging from improved cognitive function to modulation of immune response. For us fitness fanatics, this is the domain in which protein synthesis and anabolic hormone replenishment occurs. Yes, sleep at least 7 hours if you want to get optimal results from that hardcore workout you sent your body through.

Nutrition

 

There is a misplaced emphasis on some variables involving supplementation, calories, macro ratios etc as opposed to the broader view. These do play an important role, but honestly observing from hindsight, it was not the calorie count or the macro ratios which gave me the best results. It was always sound nutritional choices that were made daily. This is not calculus! It’s getting sufficient amounts of whole grains, vegetables, complete proteins, healthy fats and dairy. The moment you eat a junk meal which lacks nutrients, the less space you now have for food consumption that includes all those valuable nutrients. The truth is most of the time you don’t need a nutritionist to tell you what to eat, we already know what we need to eat, it’s a matter of honing your discipline.

 

Consistency

 

Now you might think I just told you something you already knew, and this post doesn’t have the magic pill you were probing. People look at bodybuilding physiques and think they’ll never get there. You are wrong. Yes, you won’t be a 250lb beast with 7% bodyfat but you can build a physique that resembles the proportions of a Greek god (these proportions were used to build symmetrical physiques in the golden era). It won’t happen in 3 months, the time it will take will depend on the time you invest. If you know what you are doing, this won’t take that long. Consistency is a phenomenal fundament shadowing the success in every realm we pursue.
