Why Warm Up ? Why Cool Down ?

I know, its boring, I hate it too, and honestly never did it for a good decade lol.

But let’s be smart and do the right thing.

Let’s first understand what is the logic behind warming up. When you’ve been sitting on your ass the whole day, you would have realized, your bodys a bit stiff and your flexibility isn’t the best. Our muscles have this viscous property, its like a gel, if you keep it still, it becomes thick and less flexible. So when we warm up, our core temperature increases and our muscles become less viscous after being shaken a bit by outside forces ! This is an important step before stretching, a proper warm up will help you regain your range of motion and facilitate a quick dynamic

stretch before starting your training.

What about once the training programs done?

Well for starters, you need to stretch right after you finish your exercises, since this is when your core temperatures the highest.

A light cooling down session allows a gradual reduction of exercise intensity and facilitates our physiological processes to return to a normal state. Resistance training is anaerobic, and results in lactic acid accumulation in the bloodstream and muscles, a cool down period will help remove lactic acid and also supports to reduce Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness on the following day.

And finally, remember when working out, more blood is distributed to the extremities, you can help transition the redistribution of blood towards the normal state by providing a light aerobic cool down.

So that’s that, looks like warm ups and cool downs weren’t useless after all. Now that you know, train smart ;)

And I prefer cycling for warm ups and cool downs, its easier on the joints and we are getting old haha, but do try other types of cardio too, you never know what you might come across and start to like !
